English Department: Educating for a Global World
The Educational Project of Capellán Pascal School establishes the acquisition of a second language as a fundamental tool for communication and understanding. Through the learning of English, we aim for our students to develop the confidence to function in contexts where this language is required, achieving a level of proficiency that allows them to interact in both national and international settings.
With this purpose in mind, the English Department has developed its own study plans and programs, which are implemented progressively from Pre-Kindergarten through Year 12. This process seeks to ensure that, by the end of secondary education, our students have acquired the second language according to their individual abilities and differences.
In addition, we have our own study plans and programs both within the general curriculum from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 and within the differentiated education plan for Years 11 and 12. These programs have been designed by the English Department and approved by the Ministry of Education, with the aim of meeting the needs of our students and developing the skills and competences necessary to successfully face the challenges of academic and professional life.
Regarding instructional time, the curriculum includes 5 hours per week in Early Childhood Education, 6 hours from Year 1 to Year 8, 5 hours in Years 9 and 10, 2 hours in Years 11 and 12 within the general curriculum, and 6 hours in the English elective within the differentiated program for Years 11 and 12.
Since 2025, our students in Years 10, 11, and 12 have also taken the international Cambridge English certifications at the B1 and B2 levels, thanks to a strategic partnership with the Instituto Chileno Britànico de Cultura (ICBC). These certifications represent a valuable tool for our students’ university and professional lives, expanding their academic and career opportunities both in Chile and abroad. As a result of this sustained effort, our school has obtained the status of a Cambridge Preparation Centre.
Through these initiatives, the English Department reaffirms its commitment to providing high-quality education, aimed at preparing our students to participate confidently in an increasingly interconnected world.
